NTIA Seeks Policy Comments on AI Regulations

By Published On: April 21, 2023

The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) is seeking comments on potential policies that might foster trust in AI systems via audits, certifications, and other mechanisms, according to an April 11 statement on their website.

“Just as financial accountability required policy and governance to develop, so too will AI system accountability,” says the announcement from NTIA.

The agency is asking for feedback specifically on three topics:

  • What kind of data access is necessary to perform audits?
  • How can regulators support “credible assurance” of AI systems?
  • Do different industry sectors like employment or health care require different approaches?

NTIA is asking that feedback address the questions posed in the request for comment (RFC) and should be submitted via their link by June 12, 2023.
